Explanation to a question raised...

I feel no responsibility for supplying services to other cities who do not share in taxes to support the library. If they don't have to pay, why should the residents of Collinsville.

This comment was sent in response to one of my posts and I just wanted to explain to Anonymous about the issuing of the free library cards to people outside of our service area through the end of the year...

Mississippi Valley Public Library District has received from the Illinois State Library a grant to give free library cards to anyone living in the Unit 10 School District and not serviced by any other library through the end of the year that will give these individuals an opportunity to experience library service and vote whether they would like to retain it or refuse it. The money that is being received through this grant is subsidizing the service to these individuals and families so the citizens of Collinsville are not paying for this trial period.

If the other areas outside of our boundaries decide to vote 'yes' on the November ballot, they will share in the tax support to the library.

I thank you for your comment and welcome any others on this or any subject that has to do with our library or library service.
