Storm Damage

Due to the storm today, Friday, July 21st, the library sustained some damage.

We only have 1 telephone line operating at the moment so if you call and receive a busy signal, please call us back. SBC said that they will try to repair our lines on Monday. We really appreciate your patience during this time.

The Sunday Concert which is normally held at the Blum House has been cancelled. Please call CARD at 346-7529 to see if they are going to move the concert to a new location.

Finally, if at any time you feel threatened by bad weather either storms to extreme heat, we welcome you to seek refuge here at the Library. You are welcome to stay in our Community Room to cool down or ride out inclement weather.

Call 344-1112 to check if we are open.

Fun Thursday - Ezell at the Park & Author at the Library

Thursday is going to offer something for everyone!

CARD has just announced that Tim Ezell from Channel 2 KTVI News will be joining their own Brian Witty on the Splash City's new attraction the Flowrider on Thursday, the 13th from 6:00am to 9:00am. Join them at the water park or catch them on Channel 2!!!

Later that evening...

Laurie Flori, author of "Additionally Speaking", will speak at the Blum House (414 West Main St) on Sears Homes and early American architecture. This will begin at 6:30pm. Refreshments will be served and she will be talking about interesting local architecture that she discovered while she explored the streets of Collinsville. Don't miss it ... she really knows her homes!

Explanation to a question raised...

Anonymous said...
I feel no responsibility for supplying services to other cities who do not share in taxes to support the library. If they don't have to pay, why should the residents of Collinsville.

This comment was sent in response to one of my posts and I just wanted to explain to Anonymous about the issuing of the free library cards to people outside of our service area through the end of the year...

Mississippi Valley Public Library District has received from the Illinois State Library a grant to give free library cards to anyone living in the Unit 10 School District and not serviced by any other library through the end of the year that will give these individuals an opportunity to experience library service and vote whether they would like to retain it or refuse it. The money that is being received through this grant is subsidizing the service to these individuals and families so the citizens of Collinsville are not paying for this trial period.

If the other areas outside of our boundaries decide to vote 'yes' on the November ballot, they will share in the tax support to the library.

I thank you for your comment and welcome any others on this or any subject that has to do with our library or library service.
