A Blazing Summer!

What a busy summer this has been! Summertime always brings a time of growth, of change, and of excitement to our library center, but this year has definitely been one of the most active in quite some time. The most exciting part of the changes this year is that they are so wide-spread! You can identify changes happening all over the library on any level.

A simple drive or walk by the library will reveal the installation of our new outdoor fountain that began last week. Crews have been busy digging holes, removing broken brick, installing new piping, and are well on their way to installing Pan’s new home. This new fountain will bring a definite beauty and interest to the Collinsville Library Center’s front area that has been missed by many. The Library Board and Staff would like to thank everyone for their donations of time, funding, and good words that have made this project possible. Thank You!

Coming inside and up the steps will reveal another update – an expanded New Arrivals area! Your suggestions and contributions have enabled us to bring more new arrival books, audiobooks, and other media to you than ever before! We hope you continue to enjoy this quick access to the latest materials available.

The Friends’ of the Collinsville Library Center’s annual book fair was a great success! We had more to sell and more sales than ever! Many people went home with some great, interesting reads, and your generosity will enable the Friends’ to provide assistance for library programming throughout the year.

Continuing on to the second floor, you may notice the scurrying of kids who are retrieving their Summer Reading Program rewards. This year’s summer reading program, “Get in the Game,” was a great success and brought many new faces to join us for the festivities. Thank you to everyone that helped with the activity programming for the kids. We know they really enjoyed this year’s program!

Moving down to the lower level will reveal lots of little changes. In the Media Center, updated computers, improved wireless networking, and additional laptops have helped to serve the public with their Internet and printing needs. More improvements are on their way. Leslee, our genealogy technician, is always looking for new and innovate genealogy tools to help people find their roots, and the gang is working hard to organize and present new programming resource materials for our teachers and parents.

And, completely new this summer, we are very excited to open the Fairmont City Library Center located at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont City. A temporary library, in school classroom, was started in June to examine the possibility of providing much closer, more convenient library service to this area. We have been received warmly and excitedly by the people, schools, and organizations here. We would like you to help celebrate this great enhancement to our services by joining us for an Open House on Sunday, August 24. Our grand opening day at the new center will be Tuesday, August 26. Shannon, Leo, and the volunteers at this site look forward to meeting all of you!

What a summer! It makes you sweat just reading about it! Again, a tremendous thank you to everyone that has made all of these projects possible!
